Myrtos Beach

Delicately nestled between the feet of two mountains, travel along the winding road as you are suddenly greeted with a jaw dropping panoramic vista like no other.

The deep blue seemingly endless horizon enriched by a mile-long shimmering white pebble beach is guaranteed to be one of the most dramatic seascapes you’ll ever see.

Travelers often find it difficult to shy away from photographing every remarkable moment they spend amongst the heavenly scenes of this spectacular beach.

Myrtos Beach which is located on the north west side of the island has become one of the most photographed beaches in Greece.

You would think all this publicity would garner more foot traffic to Kefalonia.

What To Do Here

Aside from all the endless photographs of every imaginable angle as you make your journey down the windy road towards the beach, there’s not much to do here but relax and go for the occasional swim.  Shockingly even with the reputation as one of the best beaches in Kefalonia, Myrtos has somehow managed to sustain a sense of tranquility amidst its well-deserved popularity.

There is a small bar located on the beach, however you can find several traditional Greek restaurants on the main road perched along the cliff. This is also where you will want to go to capture the iconic birds eye view photo of Myrtos Beach.

What Time Should I Visit?

Ideally, you’ll want to visit Myrtos in the afternoon for two reasons. One of which is with minimal shady places to hide from the unrelenting Mediterranean sun, the heat can quickly become overwhelming for most people.

The second of which is to witness the exceptional coastal views of the pomegranate stained sky as you experience what is sure to be an unforgettable Myrtos sunset.

Antisamos Beach

Take in the breathtaking view from the verdant green hills along the winding road that approaches the distinctively beautiful bay of Antisamos. The drive down is particularly hard to focus on as you will often have to resist extensively gazing out towards the alluring turquoise bay or you will end up going for a swim sooner than expected.

The glittering two toned water enriched by the stunning, green mountainous backdrop would send any beach fanatic to seventh heaven.

Unlike Myrtos, Antisamos offers crystal clear calm water conditions bursting with fish and other sea-life, making for a much more pleasant and relaxing experience.

Antisamos Beach is located just a few kilometers from the port of Sami and 27 kilometers from the town of Argostoli.

What To Do Here

Antisamos has an onsite restaurant/bar so you won’t have to go far if you’re looking for a quick bite to eat. The restaurant is pretty reasonably priced to be the only option on the beach and has quite a delicious menu to choose from.

“Extreme Watersports” is located towards the far end of the beach, and they offer everything from jet skis and crazy sofa’s (a big sofa float tied to the back of a speedboat as they attempt to flip you off in the ocean), as well as paddleboards and snorkel equipment. The prices do get a bit costly, but there is some haggle room.

However, on beach as beautiful as Antisamos, any water sport you choose will be well worth the money.

What Time Should I Visit?

It’s best to arrive to Antisamos a bit earlier in the day because in the summer months, the beach can get quite popular. There are umbrellas and sunbeds available from the bar which really come in handy to escape the sweltering sun, however I would imagine they would want you to purchase something first.

There is plenty to do here aside from lounging on the beach, so it’s not uncommon for visitors to spend an entire day here.
