Located approximately 100 km off the coast from Cartagena is the stunning Colombian archipelago known as the Rosario Islands.

Offering a nice contrast to the various city of districts of Cartagena, the Rosario Islands is everything you would expect from a top beach destination touting turquoise blue waters and white sandy beaches.

As one of Colombia’s most important national parks, the Rosario Islands are very well preserved and protected, meaning you can effortlessly enjoy the unscathed beauty of this Caribbean paradise.

However, beware that exploring this top Cartagena Instagram spot does come with a cost.

For all of our budget backpackers, a day trip to the Rosario islands commonly costs around 200 COP (Colombian Pesos), which is approximately $60 USD.

Bocagrande Beach

bocagrande beach

While not the most remarkable beach by Caribbean standards, this long strip of beach lined with multicolored cabanas and upscale high-rise buildings do make for a pretty spectacular backdrop.

Whereas the ancient walled neighborhood of Cartagena offers more of an old-fashioned and relaxed feel, Bocagrande on the other hand, emanates a more Miami South Beach vibe for those looking to travel in luxury.

Castillo San Felipe de Barajas

Aside from being one of the most historical sites of the city, Castillo San Felipe de Barajas undoubtedly offers some of the most spectacular views of Cartagena.

Located just a short 15-minute walk outside of the Getsemani district, the panoramic views from this historical fortress easily allows it to rank on our list for best photo spots in Cartagena.

Palenqueras (Fruit Basket Ladies)

Commonly seen on most Colombian travel guides and souvenirs the Palenqueras have become a staple of the Old Town of Cartagena.

Scattered throughout the city you will find these self-proclaimed “Queens of Fruit” striking poses with countless tourists providing you more than ample opportunities to capture the iconic shot.

Just remember, if you do get a photo with the Palenqueras, be sure to give them a tip!

Chances are Casa En El Agua will be the coolest hostel you have ever seen or stayed at in your entire life.

Technically classified as a Colombian Eco Water Hostel, this little piece of backpacker paradise is a place you will never want to leave.

For approximately 30 USD a night, you can book not just one of the most Instagrammable places in Cartagena, but in all of Colombia.

Although, the hostel is not technically a part of Cartagena as it is located about a 2-hour boat ride away from the city in the San Bernardo Islands.

However, it’s so goddamn awesome I just figured I’d tell you guys about it to you anyways.

Not to mention pickup can be arranged from the pier in Cartagena, so “Potato, Potahto.”

El Baluarte San Franciso

This enchanting restaurant/bar entices travelers with delightful views of the old town to further enhance an already incredible dining experience.

Arrive sometime after sunset to really get the most out of this Cartagena Instagram spot as you see the beautiful and bustling Old Town district radiantly gleaming at night.

Café Del Mar

Looking to end a perfect day in style?  Then head to Café Del Mar for dinner and some drinks as you watch the gorgeous Caribbean sunset over the walled city of Cartagena.

This is an extremely popular place amongst both locals and tourists, so be sure to arrive at least an hour before the sun goes down in order to get a table.

However, if you choose to opt out of the pricey drinks and dinner then you can still appreciate the atmosphere and sunset as you sit along the walls of Cartagena.

Old Town

Absolutely everything about the Old Town screams Instagram.

It only takes a few steps throughout the cobblestone streets of this ancient city before you see why this is one of the most Instagrammed places in Cartagena.

This ageless labyrinth is littered with historic churches, iconic eateries, distinctive architecture, and colonial homes.

As one of the most picturesque and historic destinations in all of Colombia, I dare you not to fall head over heels in love with this alluring city.

La Popa Monastery

Looking for the best aerial views of Cartagena outside of purchasing a drone?

La Popa Monastery flaunts the most unbeatable panoramic views of the city, immediately securing it a spot on this list of Most Instagrammable Places in Cartagena.

Not to mention that as you head inside the monastery, you are immediately greeted with a beautiful garden area great for photography or to just sit, relax, and take in its beauty.

Playa Blanca

playa-blanca-cartagena-colombia-5As the name suggests, expect nothing less than white powdery sands and turquoise blue water on Cartagena’s most famous beach.

Although not technically in Cartagena, Playa Blanca is easily accessible from the town located just an hour outside of Getsemani.

However, all this fame comes with a price.

Although Playa Blanca is definitely one of the most Instagrammable places in Cartagena, it is also one of the most the crowded.

This is especially true during the high season.

Therefore, make sure to get there earlier rather than later to experience the beauty of Playa Blanca before the crowds of tourists and vendors completely take over.

However, if you don’t manage to make it there early, a lot of the tourists begin to depart the beach after 3 p.m allowing you a more than decent sunset.

Abacus Books & Coffee

This is quite possibly the prettiest bookstore I’ve ever walked into!

Aside from it being one of the most Instagrammable places in Cartagena, you can actually purchase the books here and then sit down and drink a coffee while you read them.

I think we all deserve some well-earned quiet time after exploring all the gems of Cartagena!
