Visiting Cartagena would not be complete without exploring the vibrantly vivacious streets of Getsemani.

Located just a 5-minute walk from the Old Town, Getsemani Cartagena is a colorfully animated part of the city that is not to be missed.

Getsemani was once considered a sketchy neighborhood but it has since turned into one of the more cultural and authentic parts of Cartagena for tourists to visit.

I’m not going to lie… visiting cities don’t usually intrigue me like exploring tropical beaches or secret waterfalls do.

However I am pleased to admit, the city of Cartagena truly took me by surprise.

I spent a total of 10 days in Cartagena during my 6-week trip to Colombia and I could not get enough of it!

Cartagena is known for four things: the creative street art, colorful buildings that vividly light up the streets, delicious street food, and a particularly exciting nightlife scene.

It was definitely a struggle to put the camera down especially due to so many colorful constructions and street art illustrations everywhere you look!

Apart from this, the bars and clubs were buzzing on every night of the week, making it very difficult to find a moment to rest.

That’s the thing about Getsemani and for that matter, the entire city of Cartagena.

You’d never know it’s a Tuesday night with the amount of partying that goes on!

These are the very best things to do in Cartagena!

Hands down one of the top things to do in Cartagena is to explore all the incredible street art in Getsemani!

The animated streets of Getsemani Cartagena are filled with the artistry of many creative minds and it’s truly just wonderful to turn a corner only to discover more and more brilliant illustrations.

We found some of Getsemani’s artistic street art on Calle 29, otherwise known as Calle de la Sierpe.

This is where you need to go if you want to find all the coolest street art in Getsemani Cartagena.

So get your cameras ready, because finding all the street art in Getsemani is one of the main activities and best things to do in Cartagena, and your trip would be incomplete without it!

It gets expensive eating out every day while you’re on holidays.

And I know that majority of you reading this blog like to go traveling on a budget just like we do!

One of the best ways to save money while traveling is to eat up all the flavorsome street food!

And eating the local food is without a doubt one of the best ways to dive into the culture and try something different than the cuisine you’re accustomed to.

Between the empanadas, dedidos de queso (cheese sticks), and freshly cut fruit salads, there will be almost no room left in you to eat a full restaurant meal!

The street food items usually cost anywhere up to COP 3000 which is barely $1 USD.

Much cheaper than eating out at restaurants!

Colombia in general has some of the best street food we’ve tried in the world so regardless of whether you’re trying to save money or not, make sure you try some!

Pro Tip
For the BEST empanadas you may ever possibly ever find, a few doors down from Media Luna Hostel on Calle 30 is a tiny little empanada shop with the best empanadas in Colombia.

This is where we ate 80% of the time in Cartagena.
