How To Get To Ubud Monkey Forest
Location: Jl. Monkey Forest, Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Getting to Ubud Monkey Forest is really quite simple!
It’s literally in Ubud town!
Although located directly in town, it feels like you’re in another world once you’re in there.
Additionally you’ll be pleased to know that unlike some other adventures around Bali there are no sketchy broken roads that you will have to drive down to get there!
Ubud is about an hour away from Kuta and Seminyak, so if you don’t choose to stay in Ubud during your Bali trip you will still be able to visit Ubud and the Monkey Forest for the day easily!
Although located directly in town, it feels like you’re in another world once you’re there.
Fun fact: The monkeys are trained to not go beyond their barrier out of the forest. So once you exit the forest and go back into town, there’s not a monkey in sight.
Monkey Forest Ubud Price
Adult Ticket: 50,000 IDR
Children Ticket: 40,000 IDR
Once you arrive there will be an additional 10,000 IDR parking fee.
Why To Visit Ubud Monkey Forest
Truth be told, Indonesia is full of monkeys, however the monkeys out in the wild aren’t used to humans so if you get too close they may attack!
Remember, although they may appear to be nothing but cuteness and cuddles they are still wild animals!
In the Ubud monkey forest they’re used to being around humans, being fed by humans, having their photo taken and so forth.
Therefore the monkeys are not in hiding and are literally everywhere you look.
In fact, don’t be too surprised if some of the monkeys become so bold to even go for a climb on you!
Ubud Monkey Forest is such a cool experience for any animal lover.

When To Visit Ubud Monkey Forest
Ubud Monkey Forest is one of the main attractions in Bali so you can imagine it gets absolutely flooded with tourists every day.
Your best bet to avoid everyone is to go early in the morning as soon as the forest opens around 8:30am before the tour caravans begin arriving around 10:00 am.
If flocks of tourists don’t bother you, feel free to go anytime of the day, as the monkey forest is open from 8:30am – 5:30pm every day!
Keep in mind it’ll probably take you about 1-2 hours maximum to take your time walking around the entire forest at a leisurely pace.
Ubud Monkey Forest Rules
- Obviously don’t annoy or try to grab the monkeys! Yes you may want a photo cuddling a monkey, but we need to respect them also.
- The most vicious ones will be the mamas holding and protecting their babies. I know how badly you just want to snuggle a baby monkey but don’t. Otherwise mama might attack you!
- Some of them might want to touch you and climb on you, so if they do just let them and don’t freak out!
- Put away anything shiny like sunglasses… they will steal them!
- Don’t eat around them. They will steal your food. ( We learned this the hard way…)
- They can even smell food in your bag, so don’t pack heaps of food in there unless you want a bunch of monkeys climbing on you to steal all the yummy stuff!
- If you have any plastic wrappers or other trash, put it in the bin otherwise theres a good chance they’ll steal it from you and we all know plastic isn’t good for animals, us, or the environment in general.
- Probably don’t even need to mention this but just in case… If an adorable little monkey bites you, go get a rabies shot!
- Basically don’t do anything silly and you’ll be just fine.

If there’s anywhere to stay in a villa, it’s in Ubud. Wake up to the serene sounds of nature and have a dip in your private pool while your breakfast is being freshly cooked and served to you in the comfort of your own space.
If you’re on a tight budget, there’s also some outstanding hostels to stay at or perhaps it’ll work out even cheaper to split the cost of a villa with your friends!
BUDGET OPTION:
PURI GARDEN HOTEL & HOSTEL
Puri Garden Hotel & Hostel is one of the best budget accommodation options in Ubud! It definitely won’t feel like a hostel when you’re laying by that gorgeous pool. It’s perfectly located in Ubud’s Center, where you are just steps away from the markets, boutiques and restaurants!
